Dr Tarek Kapiel

Biography

Dr. Tarek Kapiel is currently working as Supervisor of Technological Development and Scientific Services Sector and Advisor to the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Ministry of Higher Education and State for Scientific Research in Egypt. He is specialist in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology, and founded a scientific school in the Division of Cytology and Genetics, Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Cairo University. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the Department of Botany in 1986, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, and was the first of his class. He received a Master's degree in Genetic Engineering and plant tissue culture from the Division of Cytology and Genetics, Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, in 1986. He received his Ph.D. degree in the field of Genetic Engineering, Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology, in 2004 in collaboration with the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Menoufia and Clemson University, SC, USA. He was working as Visiting Scientist at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Forestry, Department of Horticulture, Clemson University, South Carolina and then later worked as a Visiting Professor at the same institution. He worked as Scientific Advisor and Mentor at Governor School of Science and Mathematics, South Carolina, U.S. He also served as a consultant of Southern Sun Microsystems Research Company. He is a member of several associations and scientific bodies in Egypt and abroad, and participated in many conferences in many other scientific fields and participated in several national scientific projects. He also is acting as Research Consultant in the field of biotechnology to many of the Egyptian and Arabic bodies. He contributed to the establishment of the Faculty of Biotechnology MSA University.

Abstract

ASRT is considered as a national think tank that acts as a house of expertise that provides scientific advice to serve the Egyptian community. The mission of ASRT is to conduct studies in the fields of advanced and interdisciplinary sciences, basic and applied research, and future and strategic planning. ASRT has to value the excellence in science and its applications through the development and the implementation of the fellowship programs, honors, grants and prizes to prominent scientists and researchers. Attendance of this session will have the chance to know more details about the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), fellowship programs, M.Sc. and PhD research grants, ASRT facilities and monetary support to inventors and innovators, ethics, sate prizes, ASRT fund for scientific studies and ongoing programs and international agreements. Moreover, a detailed overview on the national strategy for genetic engineering and biotechnology, achievements, impact assessment and future plan will be presented. In this session, ASRT president will announce the Egyptian Academy of Youth (EAY).
