Christian Hugonnet received an engineering degree in acoustics from the "Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers .
In 1978 he joined both the technical broadcasting department of Radio France and the Audiovisual National Institut (INA) where he taught acoustics, music sound recording and surround sound for motion pictures.
In 1988, after a year of research at the Institute of Research and Coordination for Acoustics and Music (IRCAM) on different stereo systems, he was given the mandate to design the Audiovisual Centre of the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris (CNSMDP) and the opening with Michel Philippot of the Superior Training Department for Sound recording.
Professor at the National Superior School Louis Lumière from 1985 to 2000, President (2000-2001) of the Superior Technical Commission of Sound and picture (CST), he initiated in 1998 the annual International Multichannel Sound Forum (FISM), which is recognized as the first professional European platform for exchange and demonstrations on surround sound.
In 2004, he launched the first edition of « The Week of Sound », now annual international event that aims to educate the public and elected officials on the societal importance of sound and the quality of sound environment (hearing health, acoustics and sound environment, recording and reproduction, image and sound, musical expression).
Expert at the Court of Paris, Christian Hugonnet runs since 1993 a consultancy practice in acoustics for concert hall and recording studios. He conducts seminars in acoustics and recording technics in numerous radio and television corporations; he is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and of the French Superior Technical Commission for Sound and Picture (CST-CNC).
He is the co-author with Pierre Walder of the book « Stereophonic sound recording » (Eyrolles Ed and John Wiley Ed), the revised and increased edition in September 2012 « from stereo to surround sound ». (Eyrolles Ed).

Improving Health. Contribution to the prevention of hearing loss : The « SOUND CHARTER » |

Hearing loss can be classified in two categories:
- Non preventable, like genetic, congenital infections, presbyacusis or specific conditions associated with deafness
- Preventable, like avoidable diseases through vaccination, noise induced hearing loss or ototoxicity of certain drugs.
This presentation deals with “preventable hearing loss” and particularly with noise and listening condition induced hearing loss.
THE WEEK OF SOUND (LA SEMAINE DU SON) is a world wide global initiative supported by UNESCO, launched in France in 2004 and already organized in 12 different countries for reflection and action on social issues of sound, especially in the areas of hearing health, acoustic environment, recording techniques and sound diffusion, relationship between sound and picture, musical expression.
We will discuss about the « charter of The Week of Sound » which has been introduced in January 18, 2016 in Paris at UNESCO in the presence of Mrs Irina Bokova, for the launch of the 13th edition of the Week of Sound.
The « sound charter » sets universal goals and will become in November 2016 a draft resolution for the Executive Board of UNESCO. Once approved, the charter will be presented to the General Conference of UNESCO in November 2017 before its adoption by the National Organization of the United Nations.
