The findings of this study also raised an important concern about the readiness of the health care delivery system in meeting the needs of pregnant women in the community. It appears that the health system is not ready to meet the increased demand for comprehensive emergency obstetric care services.

Bangladesh is suffering from a severe HRH crisis, in terms of a shortage of qualified providers, an inappropriate skills-mix and inequity in distribution, which requires attention from policy makers. Reducing the 'income-erosion' effect of illness through a pro-poor health system is needed.
