This study traced Fair Trade and open market coffee value chains in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania, and Jimma, Ethiopia. It compares governance frameworks and benefit distribution among actors in both chains and makes recommendations for policy changes to maximise returns for smallholder farmers.
