The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the WHO Collaborating Centre, Pittsburgh launched the Science Supercourse project in January 2009.
The Science Supercourse intends to build an internet archive of PowerPoint lectures in four main scientific disciplines, namely: Medicine (public health), Agriculture, Engineering and Environment.
These lectures are collected through a crawling system designed by the BA- ICT department.

The Science Supercourse primary goal is to provide the most updated, accessible online for free and continuously quality improved source to assist the Educators and Scholars from the Developing Countries to ameliorate their performance.
Therefore, the Science Supercourse DVD containing more than 3600 lectures is targeted to be distributed worldwide. It is a “gift that is meant to be given”. The DVDs are widely distributed and reached more than 6,000 people.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). In operating with other federal offices concerned, SDC is responsible for the overall coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation.
The goal of development cooperation is that of reducing poverty. It is notably meant to foster economic self-reliance and state autonomy, to contribute to the improvement of production conditions, to help in finding solutions to environmental problems, and to provide better access to education and basic healthcare services
The Agency engages in direct operations, supports programmes of multilateral organizations, and helps to finance programmes run by Swiss and international relief organizations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

-Providing needed information to people who can use it to combat poverty, disease, hunger and malnutrition
-Providing High quality Just In Time Materials to assist those who are dealing with crisis situation

US involvement/contribution within the project:
- WHO Collaborating Centre in Pittsburgh are responsible for building the Public Health network professionals, as well as taking care of the JIT/SWAT lectures concerning the diseases.
They are also sharing the Bibliotheca the task of disseminating the SSC DVDs
