Global Citizens Corps
Global Citizens Corps (GCC) inspires and equips an expanding international network of young leaders to take informed actions that build secure, productive and just communities around the world. The program is currently working with more than 1100 youth leaders in Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza, the US, and Scotland. Pakistan and Indonesia will join the program soon, and other countries are expected to join the network in the coming year. In addition, thousands of youth around the world connect to the program via the web platform www.globalcitizen.org.
Through GCC, Mercy Corps trains youth on leadership, life skills, multimedia and communications skills, advocacy, community mobilization, and global issues. Youth explore critical issues in their own communities and learn about how these local concerns relate to global issues such as climate change and environmental protection, health, access to education, peace and conflict, and food security. GCC leaders then design and implement their own local action projects to address prioritized community issues. They also take part in global actions in solidarity with their peers around the world. Youth build empathy and understanding from people of different cultures and backgrounds by engaging in dialogue and sharing experiences through online discussions, videoconferencing, and other technology-supported means.
