Translation is intimately related to the project of civilization and is essential to the exchange of ideas within and among civilizations. As such it is a significant part of Yale University’s and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s mission in the world. It is a means to understand the thinking of the other, put oneself in the other’s place by engaging vicariously in his or her struggles, or experience how he or she sees the world.
Accordingly, Yale and Yale University Press are eager to explore with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and other partners from around the world how to advance translation initiatives that aim at making translation an indispensable tool of enriching dialogue among cultures.
