The Egyptian Dar El Eftaa -the Islamic Legislation Authority- has started an initiative aiming at overcoming misconceptions and encounter extremist ideologies. A group of researchers from Dar El Eftaa under the supervision of the Grand Mofti, Dr. Ali Gomaa as well as his advisor Dr. Ibrahim Nagum, have compiled around 500 titles of English books written by non-Arab authors who propagate for the positive image of Islam while tackling different issues related to Islam and Islamic studies.
These books cover a wide variety of issues such as the duties and practices of Islam; the interpretations of the Holy Qura'an; Islamic laws, the history and traditions of Islam etc. A large number of these books have been scanned in an attempt at building an electronic bibliography of all English books that encourage the reading and understanding of Islam in its real tolerance values.
Building on the work of the Dar El Eftaa, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) proposes to continue this initiative as a follow-up project of the June Conference 2010: "New Beginning: US- Muslims Relations". The project aims at republishing and disseminating all English and other non-English books that correct the distorted image of Islam and other religions written by Arab, Muslim and non-Arab, non-Muslim authors. Such a project will definitely contribute to overcoming misconceptions about Islam as well as other faiths and dispel cultural ignorance and more importantly encounter and counteract the voices of hatred and hard-liners and extremist ideologues.
