The Blue Sky
Type of Activity: Physics
Materials Needed:
1. One glass cup
2. Some milk
3. One handheld torch (strong flashlight)
4. A dark room (or you can use a black box).
Target Group: 6–9 years old
Duration: 25 minutes
Steps of the Experiment:
1. Fill half of the cup with milk.
2. In the dark room, shed the light on top of the cup.
Observation:
The cup of milk will turn blue.
Conclusion:
The molecules of milk absorb the red, purple, orange, yellow, and green colors, but do not absorb the indigo blue and blue colors. Therefore, the milk reflects the light on the sides of the cup.
Tips:
- You must use a very strong flashlight.
- You must darken the room completely.
