Welcome to SCIplanet!
SCIplanet is a bilingual edutainment science magazine published by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It communicates science to the general public in an interesting and simple manner. Not a periodical or a peer-reviewed journal for scientific research, the Magazine engages a wide range of ages with science-related articles, short stories, comics, DIY experiments, games, and other activities.
The Magazine is always looking for contributions from freelance editors and experts, who are passionate about science and eager to share their writing and literary talents. We welcome applications from editors all year long; if you are interested, please send a topic proposal (no more than 100 words, either in Arabic or English), on a recent scientific topic explaining your unique perspective that you will bring for our readers, along with your CV, to: COPU.editors@bibalex.org.
For more information on SCIplanet’s themes, articles, and printed issues, please visit our website: www.bibalex.org/SCIplanet.
Please make sure to read our editorial guidelines and follow the instructions before emailing your submission.
Editorial Guidelines
- Contributors are distinguished specialists who find contributing to SCIplanet worthwhile, and are not paid.
- Freelance Editors are aspiring science writers, who must be Egyptian residents, and are not staff members of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
- Proposals are normally reviewed within 2–4 weeks, and editors are then notified whether their submission has been accepted or not. We evaluate submissions based on several aspects, including language proficiency, writing style, and approach to the topic that reflect an understanding of the Magazine’s vision, themes, and target audience.
- If the proposal is accepted, a member of our Resident Team will email the editor with an assignment email to submit a full article on the proposed topic. The email will include any special writing guidelines, word count, and the deadline.
- Please do not begin writing a full article until you have received approval for your proposal. This helps you avoid rejection, as the topic may not align with the Magazine’s vision, have been covered in a previous issue, or could be unsuitable for other reasons.
We are always looking for valuable scientific content, free of plagiarism, and written in good Arabic or English. Articles written using AI applications, directly translated from other sources, already published in printed or online publications/websites/blogs, are not accepted.
- Once the article has been reviewed, a member of our Resident Team will send the final approved version to the editor, ask for revisions if needed, or provide other instructions.
- Accepted articles are published after editing and translation into Arabic/English through our Resident Team. Editing often entails: amending linguistic errors, poor structures, repetitions or redundancies, disambiguation, rearrangement of sentences for clarity, reconfiguration of dates and measuring units to suit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's publishing style, etc.
- Do not expect your article to be published immediately; articles are published according to the Editorial Team’s plan of publication and priorities.
