Jean-Marie Ekoé Contribution
My small contribution to the History of Diabetes Epidemiology holds in 3 books that span almost 25 years of research, starting from my fellowship in Geneva as the first recipient of the first WHO/IDF Kelly West Memorial Fellowship 1983-1987. This period resulted in a publication of my first book on Diabetes Epidemiology (Elsevier) bridging the gap since the publication of Dr Kelly West's monumental work and the early 90's. After Geneva I moved to Canada, Québec, Montreal and continued to work partly on epidemiology of diabetes among unusual populations. We've been quite successful . The two main surveys ever published about diabetes among the Cree (Ontario) and the Algonquin Indians (Québec) are derived from team's work and another team in the province of Ontario. The second book brought to light new data tackling all the different aspects of Diabetes Epidemiology Worldwide as the first. It was highly praised by an editorial in the BMJ (a worhty successor of Kelly West's text see attachment). Finally, the last but not least came out 2 years ago (see attachment). New chapters deal with AIDS and Diabetes as well as Mental Diseases and Diabetes (120 co-authors from different parts of the world).
