Investigation – must have appropriate scientific knowledge, supplies, equipment (lab, personal safety, etc.). Must learn how to collect, store, and transport samples.

Administrative – if you work for the government, there’ll be procedures you must follow!

Consultation – know your role – are you in the lead, or a consultant? Know when and where you are to meet local officials and contacts when you arrive in the field.
