What does
INTERFERENCE mean? It means that if 1/3 serotypes infects the subject, the
other 2 are held out. Say serotype 3 gets in with the first oral dose.
Numbers # 1 & # 2 are out. Once antibodies form against #3, it is out and
either #1 or #2 gets in. Say #2 gets in with #1 held out. Then after the 2
doses, only #1 can get in since both #3 and #2 have antibodies.
Incidentally, the oral vaccine was "accused" by the Russians of spreading to
new children through fecal contact, and this was most vigorously denied.
Later, when it was admitted that of course oral vaccine could spread, this
point was reworked as a selling point for live virus!
