Late stage symptoms are severe and include: a) painful throat spasms associated with trying to swallow or even on seeing liquids (hydrophobia), b) muscle spasms, c) paralysis and d) cardiac or respiratory arrest. Hydrophobia is unique and also the famous symptom of a number of symptoms like ‘sore throat’ that are obviously useless.
