One model is for the agencies that regulate traditional health and medicine products and services to also regulate the information about those products and services. The Food and Drug Administration can regulate the form and content of information about pharmaceuticals, the state license boards can regulate the advertising of doctor’s services, and so on. An alternative approach is to include health and medicine with other products and services and apply general regulatory approaches to areas such as safety and privacy. Whatever the approach, there are ethical, legal, and other policy concerns underlying the regulation. |
