Hemochromatosis causes people to absorb too much iron from their food,
causing high levels of
iron in their liver and making them more likely to
develop cirrhosis.
Other metabolic diseases that increase risk are tyrosinemia,
alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency,
porphyria cutanea tarda, glycogen storage diseases, and
Wilson disease.
