Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and American Indians. African American women are at highest risk for death. Interestingly African American adults are less likely to be diagnosed with coronary heart disease, but are more likely to die of it. They are 40% more likely to have high blood pressure, but less likely to have their blood pressure under control. This demonstrates disparities in both diagnosis and treatment in this population. |
