For an ordinal variable, the possible responses have natural order or progression. If scores are assigned to rank individuals, the ordinal variable is score ranking. If the ranking occurs for group of responses, the ordinal variable is categorical. The most confusing type of ordinal variables is the numerical discrete, where a number is assigned but does not mean a true quantity. |
