Harrell’s
1996 tutorial discusses multivariable prognostic models, including issues in developing
models, evaluating assumptions and adequacy, and measuring and reducing errors. Empirical evaluations of several logistic regression modeling
strategies were reported (e.g. Steyerberg et al, 2000), focusing on selection of
predictors and estimation of regression coefficients for predictive purposes. The first
graph in this lecture comes from an accompanying and on-line available data set: Techniques for internal validation (Steyerberg et al, 2001) and issues related to external validation have been described (Justice et al, 1999; Altman & Royston, 2000).
