The term necessary refers to the fact that the factor must be present for the disease to occur, while sufficient means that the factor alone can lead to the disease. Whenever the factor is present, the disease must occur. However, in infectious diseases, microorganism is not necessary and sufficient for disease development. e.g. Tubercle bacilli. |
