Death certificates from people with Down syndrome were 29 times more likely to report congenital heart defects, 21 times more likely to list dementia, 20 times more likely to report hypothyroidism, More than 7 times as likely to list pneumonia, 3 times as likely to list viral hepatitis, and about 1.5 times more likely to report leukemia than death certificates from people without Down syndrome. In contrast, malignant neoplasms other than leukemia, referred to here as "Other Malignancy", were listed much less often than expected on death certificates of people with Down syndrome. The SMOR was 0.07 overall. |
