From the first outbreak of Minamata disease, the local governments started to provide support in terms of medical expense to Minamata patients. The Compensation Law provides income compensation in addition to medical expense subsides. The patients who have been certified as Minamata disease patients based on the Compensation Law are receiving compensation directly from the responsible companies.
