Dr. Robert Koch
was German born physician who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. He was the author
of several fine books upon the subject of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In his
writing, he describes the pathology and experimental work undertaken to define the
disease. Students interested in the disease should acquaint themselves with his work. In a curious way, Koch has been ignored by medicine. That is to say...his work is not often examined for currency and insight towards the immune response. The tuberculin reaction...and the method and process by where basic TB research is undertaken....perrhaps was complacent in the post "magic bullet" time frame of efficient antimicrobial chemotherapy, cira 1944 - 2000. |
