Similar data are
difficult to find for Type 2 diabetes, however, the Kumamoto study from Japan which
examined relatively thin Type 2 diabetics showed encouraging results for the microvascular
complications. The 54% reduction in macrovascular events however should be interpreted
cautiously as only 5 individuals in the whole study had macrovascular events. Whether
lowering blood sugar will improve the macrovascular outcome of Type 2 diabetes is less
clear.
