It’s this background that led to the establishment of the NIH a dozen years ago of an Office of Alternative Medicine and its elevation in 1999 to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). NCCAM is dedicated to exploring complementary and alternative healing practices in the context of rigorous science, training CAM researchers, and disseminating authoritative information to the public and professionals.
