Many people thought that the hypnotized subject merely wants
to satisfy the hypnotist, will go along with this little parlor trick, but there’s some
recent evidence suggesting that there’s more to it. To tell you this story, I’m going
to go through a bit of a complex experiment conducted by David Spiegel, who’s a
psychiatrist at Stanford, and his collaborator, Steve Kosslyn and colleagues, in Boston.
And they studied a model system and showed that hypnosis can alter how the brain processes
color vision signals. |
