This slide makes the
point that the lack of difference in the results in road traffic related fractures between
affluent and deprived areas in this study does not challenge the well-studied relationship
which shows car related fatal injuries being higher in deprived children. There are two
possible explanations for this. The first is that the numbers of motor vehicle related
fractures in this study are small and so there is little power to detect a difference. The
other explanation is that the causes of fatal injuries may differ from the causes of
non-fatal injuries. |
