Break up thick mucus in the lungs, drink plenty of fluids and take 600 mg a day of
N-acetyl-cysteine and 2 g of vitamin C 3 times a day. 7/ In patients for whom N-acetyl-cysteine and vitamin C do not provide relief from thick mucus, Pulmozyme, a drug used to treat cystic fibrosis, can be prescribed. As it is approved only for cystic fibrosis, Pulmozyme is unlikely to be prescribed for emphysema unless requested by the patient. 8/ Pulmonary function may improve with supplementation of 25,000-50,000 IU of vitamin A daily. 9/ To restore energy to damaged lung cells and keep airways relaxed, the following NUTRIENTS are suggested: A/ Coenzyme Q10, 100 mg 3 times a day. B/ Alpha-lipoic acid, 250 mg twice a day. C/ Acetyl-L-carnitine, 1000 mg twice a day. D/ NADH, 5 mg twice a day. E/ Taurine, 1000 mg twice a day. F/ Elemental magnesium, 500 mg twice a day. G/ Potassium, if needed. 10/ N-Dimethylglycine (DMG) can be taken at the rate of 1 or 2 tablets (125-250 mg) under the tongue immediately before exercise. It helps in oxygenation. |
