The
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the World
Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1988.
The role of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is to assess the scientific,
technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of the risk of
human-induced climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has produced
two assessment reports, in 1990 and in 1996, on the state of knowledge of causes of
climate change, its potential impacts and options for response strategies. A third report
is currently being prepared and is due for publication in 2001. |
