The power of
prevention world wide is documented with over a 25 year increase in life
expectancy, almost all of which is due to prevention. With the aging of the
world, non-communicable diseases now represent the primary forms of
morbidity in all developed and many developing countries. To improve global
health will mean to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases. This is
what we refer as " Epidemiologic transition. It is estimated by the year
2010 73% of the deaths in developing countries will be due to chronic
conditions.
