Address activity levels with each
patient you see. Advise parents to establish time limits for sedentary activities and
encourage a daily time for physical activity in all age groups. Never
exclude a child from activities because of physical or mental limitations – including
heart disease! Even children with cardiomyopathies or severe stenoses will self-limit
their activities if need be. Teach parents the importance of being role models for active
lifestyles and providing children with opportunities for increased physical activity. And
be an advocate for physical health and recreation facilities in your community. |
