Birth certificate follow-back surveys involve identifying children born in a particular geographic area during a defined time period, randomly selecting a sample of these children using birth certificates, locating these children using data sources such as Medicaid datasets, post office addresses, telephone directories or their parents driver’s licenses and then collecting the sampled children’s immunization histories.
