The traditional model for creating
lectures in higher education has been
that of Craftsmen where educators are Artisans who produce
individually sculpted lectures relying on their personal research
and network to capture the wisdom and knowledge of educators using
journal articles and books from the past. For one hour of lecture
the artisan invest between 15 to 25 hours of preparation. In general
the lecture developed for the first time is not very good, as we
might know one aspect, e.g. epidemiology, but know little about the
immunology. This is similar
for any discipline.
