Plasma adiponectin
concentrations are closely related with insulin sensitivity, obesity and
lipid accumulation. In the animal model of obesity and diabetes,
administration of adiponectin protein improves insulin resistance.
Adiponectin acts in regulating insulin sensitivity in subjects with obesity
and diabetes. Decreased plasma adiponectin levels cause insulin resistance.
Also, several genetic variants in the adiponectin gene have been identified.
