Adenoviridae
were first recovered from explants of human adenoid tissue (adeno = gk. gland). They occur in all species and replicate in endothelial cells, e.g. kidney, liver, respiratory mucosa. The more virulent ones of veterinary importance are canine adenovirses 1 and 2 which cause hepatitis and laryngotracheitis respectively. They are now well controlled by vaccination in the UK. |
