Numerous studies
have conducted the multifactorial intervention strategies in community setting, long-term
care, or hospital settings. The elements of those interventions included the following:
education programs to increase awareness of fall risk, home environment modification,
exercise programs to increase balance and gait, and medical assessment to improve health. Exercise
programs composed of endurance, balance, resistance training, or Tai Chi (dynamic balance)
were reported to be beneficial in most of studies (Tinetti, 1994; Province, 1995).
Reductions or review of medications, or medical assessment (e.g. cardiovascular problems)
were reported to be beneficial. Several prevention programs are listed in CDC publications. |
