No data has been published on the prevalence of abnormal pap smears among women with HIV in the DR. Therefore, it is likely that there are significant rates of abnormal pap smears among women with HIV cared for at the Hospital Regional Universitario José Maria Cabral y Báez. The information gathered from this study will be the basis for further study of cervical cancer prevention in the Dominican Republic. Envisioned for the future are studies of HPV genotypes in HIV positive and negative women and a cost effectiveness analysis for HPV vaccination. |
