Interesting comparisons can be made with similar surveys in other FSU countries. These all find very high rates of smoking amongst men (>50%), lower rates amongst women (generally 8-15%) and marked urban/rural differences amongst women. The only exception is Estonia, where female smoking rates are much higher and the urban/rural difference is not seen. This suggests that the tobacco epidemic is further advanced in Estonia than in neighbouring countries. |
