The hs-CRP phenomenon appears to predict systemic vascular events as well as MI or stroke. These prospective data, again deriving from middle-aged men, indicate that CRP levels are higher at baseline among those apparently healthy individuals who subsequently develop either intermittent claudication or a need for peripheral arterial surgery over the next 6 to 8 years of their lives.
