Although wealthy nations have better child survival, there is enormous variation in child survival at any given level of national wealth. Child survival (to age 5) in the US is lower than in other countries with comparable wealth. It is possible that this variability is associated, at least in part, by the way in which the health systems of the countries are oriented towards equitable distribution of health services.
