TWAS Arab Regional Award 2023

TWAS Arab Regional Award 2023 “Development of Scientific Educational Material"

The TWAS Arab Regional Award 2023 will be awarded in recognition of significant and innovative contributions to scientific educational material, that help to advance the quality of science education in the Arab Region.

 

Deadline: 20 June 2023

 

Each TWAS Regional Award winner receive a USD 3,000 cash award.

Candidates for a TWAS-AREP Award must be scientists with a nationality of one of the following Arab Science and Technology Lagging Countries (STLCs) only (Comoros, Djibouti, Mauritania, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen) and must have been living and working in any developing country for at least the last ten years. Any refugee and/or displaced scientist from any of the Arab STLCs who is living and working in any developing country is eligible to apply.

The nominations will only be accepted and valid from:

  • Members of TWAS-AREP.
  • Science Academies, or National Research Councils, or Universities, or Scientific Institutions from the Arab Region.

Nominations of women scientists are particularly encouraged.

TWAS Arab Young Affiliates 2023 – 2028

Don’t miss the deadline: 12 June 2023

 

Each year, the five TWAS Regional Partners each select up to five scientists under the age of 40 years to be 'TWAS Young Affiliates' for a period of six years. During their tenure, Affiliates are invited to participate in TWAS general meetings and conferences.

 

TWAS Arab Young affiliates eligibility criteria:

1. Less than 40 years by application date.

2. Native of an Arab country.

3. Has at least 10 international publications in peer-reviewed journals.

4. Residing and working in a developing country for at least the past three years.

Women scientists are particularly encouraged to apply.

Regional Workshop on Science Diplomacy for the Arab Region

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) through the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Partner (TWAS–AREP) are seeking candidates to participate in the Regional Workshop on Science Diplomacy for the Arab Region that will be held hybrid  from 24–26 October 2023.

 

Science diplomacy is the use of scientific collaborations among nations to address common problems facing humanity and to build constructive, knowledge based international partnerships.

 

Many of the challenges we face today are international and whether it is tackling climate change or fighting disease, these global problems require global solutions. That is why it is important that we create a new role for science in international policymaking and diplomacy to place science at the heart of the progressive international agenda.
