The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center organizes a Book Launch of the Arabic version of Pharos by Herman Tirsch on Sunday, 13 December 2009. The book is translated by Dr. Mervat Seif el Din, introduced by Dr. Mohamed Awad and sponsored by Goethe Institute.

The original German version of Pharos was issued in 1909. The Book Launch celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Herman Tirsch (1874- 1939) was a German archaeologist and a professor in the University of Tubigen. He participated in a series of archaeological expeditions to Alexandria and the rest of Egypt in the beginning of the twentieth century, resulting in a series of publications known as Expeditions of Ernst Von Sielgen.
