Bibliotheca Alexandrina: The Revival of a Legend

Members of the original team from the Norwegian Architecture firm Snøhetta return to Alexandria to tell the story behind designing and building the new Library of Alexandria through a ceremony organized by the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), Academic Research Sector, titled “Bibliotheca Alexandrina: The Revival of a Legend”.

Snøhetta is an international integrated architecture and design firm. The practice has a global presence, with offices spanning from Oslo, Paris, and Innsbruck, to New York, Hong Kong, Adelaide and San Francisco. Snøhetta kick-started its career in 1989 with the competition-winning entry for the new Library of Alexandria, Egypt. This was later followed by the commission for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City, among many others.

يعود أعضاء الفريق الأصلي من المكتب المعماري النرويجي «سنوهتا» إلى الإسكندرية لسرد قصة تصميم وبناء مكتبة الإسكندرية الجديدة. وذلك من خلال الاحتفالية التي ينظمها مركز دراسات الإسكندرية وحضارة البحر المتوسط بقطاع البحث الأكاديمي بعنوان «مكتبة الإسكندرية: إحياء الأسطورة».

     تعد مجموعة «سنوهتا» من أنجح مكاتب التصميم والهندسة المعمارية على مستوى العالم. فمكاتبها تمتد من أوسلو وباريس وإنسبروك إلى نيويورك وهونغ كونغ وأديلايد وسان فرانسيسكو. بدأت المجموعة مسيرتها المهنية في عام 1989 بالفوز بالمسابقة المعمارية الدولية لتصميم مبنى مكتبة الإسكندرية الجديدة بمصر، وتبع ذلك الأوبرا الوطنية النرويجية والباليه في أوسلو بالنرويج، وجناح المتحف التذكاري الوطني في 11 سبتمبر في مركز التجارة العالمي في مدينة نيويورك، ومجموعة واسعة من المشروعات الدولية من المباني المهمة حول العالم.
