The Indian architect, planner, activist and theoretician, Charles Correa, gave a lecture on The Language of Architecture at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 8 March 2008.
Charles Correa is a world renowned figure in contemporary architecture. His wide range of works include the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial at Sabarmati Ashram, the Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, and the State Assembly in Madhya Pradesh, as well as housing projects and townships in Delhi, Bombay, Ahmadabad and Bangalore. Charles Correa is the chief architect for Navi Mumbai, the new city of 2 million people, and in 1985, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi appointed him Chairman of the National Commission on Urbanization.
