On 19 November 2006, Alex Med held the book launch of “Voices from Cosmopolitan Alexandria”. This publication was part of the Mediterranean Voices project, a major research project and partnership initiative between London Metropolitan University and 13 research institutions in the Mediterranean Basin, which was partly funded by the European Union's Euromed Heritage II Programme. The book includes the oral narratives of Alexandrians representing the different communities and creeds which for decades made Alexandria their home.

During the book launch, Dr Sahar Hamouda spoke about “The Making of the Book”. This was followed by talks given by Joseph Boulad and Alaa Khaled about the interview process used to collect the oral narratives of the different communities featured in the book.
