New WorldCat Metadata API 2.0 is now available

OCLC has announced the availability of WorldCat Metadata API 2.0. This upgraded version offers new functionality, like the ability to read and write Local Holdings Records (LHRs), including registering shared print commitments; search WorldCat and receive single best-match WorldCat bibliographic record from multiple matches; and search Local Bibliographic Data (LBD) records on a variety of indexes, as well as by OCLC Number or control number. In addition to new functionality, users of WorldCat Metadata API 2.0 benefit from the new API infrastructure, greater interoperability, and enhanced security features.

OCLC releases more than 150 million WorldCat Entities as the foundation of a linked data infrastructure

OCLC has completed a project, funded in part by a grant from the Mellon Foundation, to develop a shared entity management infrastructure that supports linked data initiatives in the library community. As a result of this effort, OCLC has released millions of authoritative WorldCat Entities through a publicly searchable website and will continue to partner with libraries to develop the tools needed to fully incorporate linked data into library workflows and improve resource discovery through connections.

Transforming Metadata into Linked Data to Improve Digital Collection Discoverability, an OCLC Research Report, shares the findings from the CONTENTdm Linked Data Pilot project. In this pilot project, OCLC partnered with institutions that manage their digital collections with OCLC’s CONTENTdm service to investigate methods for—and the feasibility of—transforming metadata into linked data to improve the discoverability and management of digitized cultural materials and their descriptions.

New translation of Library Reference Model

A  translation of the IFLA Library Reference Model into Italian is now available on the IFLA LRM webpage. It has been done at the ’Istituto centrale per il catalogo unico delle biblioteche italiane e per le informazioni bibliografiche (ICCU), coordinated by Flavia Bruni, with the participation of Valentina Atturo, Agnese Galeffi, Giuliano Genetasio, Massimo Gentili-Tedeschi, Mauro Guerrini, Federico Meschini, Lucia Sardo, Antonella Trombone and Simona Turbanti.
