Abstract:
The Central African Republic (CAR) has one of the highest maternal mortality ratios in the world, estimated at 829/100,000 live births in 2017. Up to one third of maternal deaths are due to complications following unsafe abortion, according to CAR’s Minister for Health. The objectives of this review are to assess barriers and enablers to safe abortion access in CAR, and analyse which safe abortion advocacy and implementation strategies could be most effective in this context.
