Abstract:
The World Health Organization proposes decentralization of mental health care for countries with insufficient coverage of mental health services. In the rural Hospital San Carlos in Chiapas a mental health project has been implemented with the objective to train general doctors in mental health care. In order to provide effective and adequate mental health care in this intercultural setting, improved sociocultural understanding of patients is needed.
