Biography |

Ramy Karam Aziz, PhD is a lecturer of Microbiology and Immunology at Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University. He is currently in a scientific mission to work on bioinformatics, microbial and viral genomics, and metagenomics at San Diego State University, where he is an adjunct faculty member.
Dr. Aziz obtained his Bachelors degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1995, and his PhD in microbiology and immunology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, USA in 2004-2005.
His interests include microbial and viral genomics, microbial pathogenesis, immunogenetics and host-pathogen interactions, virulence gene discovery and evolution of virulence especially via horizontal gene transfer, bioinformatics/computational biology and (micro)biology education.
He is a member of the International Advisory Group of the Public Library of Science (http://www.plos.org/about/intladvisors.php), and a member of the editorial boards of the journals PLoS ONE and BMC Microbiology. His scientific publications are listed in http://egybio.net/people/rka.html.
