   Biography

Dr. Biljana Papazov Ammann, born 1948, obtained her doctorate in the Department of Methodology of Science at the Philosophical Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Science in Sofia. In 1987 she was invited by the Swiss government as a guest scientist. Subsequently she stayed, thus enabling her to further develop her unique and sensitive approach between the Eastern-European and Western societies. As her awareness and knowledge of Western societies developed, she sought to integrate seemingly incompatible worlds -East and West, South, and Nord, rich and poor, religion and science - through her concept of "Question Culture". Publications on Science and Humanity, Scientific knowledge and Culture of science, New Approach of Understanding the World, Battle on Objectivity within Society: The female dilemma, The hidden Harmonics or the Mystery of Meaningfullness, Quo-Vadis 21st Century, Fight for the Future, The Ideology of Now, Humanizing Science, the Dilemma: "Technological Progress or Social Development?" Culture of Science or Culture of Solidarity? How to meet the world - as observers or participants? Understanding the Past, creating the Future! She participated by teaching in activities of the Federal School of Technology in Zürich and at the University of Bern about discursive methods and shared her views in international conferences in Montpellier (France), in Engelberg (Switzerland), Milano (Italy), Nürnberg (Germany) .... and last-but-not-least she appreciated enormously the opportunity to contribute 6 times to Biovision Alexandria.

  Abstract

Culture of Solidarity
Culture of Solidarity Dr. Biljana Papazov Ammann We can only adapt to the present if we adopt a new attitude to life and that is: we have to regain control of our vision and not try to control life itself. LIFE and the individual have to be understood and not judged. We have to be aware of false targets such as “achieving a higher human potential” through the so-called “Fourth Industrial Revolution”. The obvious barrier to protecting this life-attitude is the ideology of transhumanism, which is speculating with false hopes. The mystery of life must be protected, treasured and respected through a conscious approach towards an existential meaning of life. Our scientific creativity should also develop in this direction and not be confined to the formal parameters of individual cells. Why is this concept so difficult for the biologists of today? What is the relationship between biology and society? Why do mutual fears block the confidence between us human beings? Could it be that the “Culture of Questioning” will be the redemptive bridge towards a “Culture of Solidarity” – so that trust in the science of life and the attitude to life itself can be regained?
